In order to propose strategies for well adapted forests and plan breeding programmes it is essential to get a better insight into conifer development and their adaptive response to the environment. Canas R. A. 2015 analysed the metabolite and transcriptomic profiles of needles from 25 year old maritime pine tress to understand the environment stimulated changes leading to adaptation. Based on this they have proposed a model for adaptive response in maritime pine. According to their “results the environment regulated the transcriptome for fine tuning of the metabolome during development”.
